Make a sketched diagram. Make a sketch of a well labelled illustration of the problem. This helps one to visualize and formulate the problem in their mind. Label your variables correctly and include the values known to you.

Use approximations. Certain problems are often solved through approximations when they fail to produce a definite answer. This applies in cases where the answer is numerical.

Confirm your units. Make sure your units match so as to come up with the correct answer. Your units should be the same throughout the problem.
